Shane Warne has described the soul-destroying moment he was taunted by rival cricket fans following his divorce from ex-wife Simone Callahan.

The cricketing legend, 51, was married to the 52-year-old yoga instructor for ten years before splitting in 2005.

Shane spoke candidly about his highly-publicised divorce while commentating for Foxtel at the Australia v England Ashes test on Sunday, describing that period of his life as ‘really tough’.

‘Getting divorced was a difficult time in my life and for my children. And it was my fault. So I have to live with that for the rest of my life, it wasn’t easy,’ he said.

‘[We divorced] a week before the [2005] Ashes series [and so] I’d have to drag myself off the canvas to get out there and play in against a quality England side,’ he continued.

The sportsman recalled having to endure constant cruel chants about his divorce from British cricket fans.

‘[They chanted] for six hours a day, not just ten minutes, singing songs [like] “Where’s your missus gone?”‘

While Shane admitted that the song itself was ‘pretty good’, the impact it had upon his mental health was overwhelming.

‘I was sitting there, worrying about my children, that I was hoping I was going to spend three months at the Ashes series with, but because of my own doing, they had to turn around and find a flight [home],’ he lamented.

‘So I was pretty devastated with that. That was the lowest point in my life. And then I had to go out and play an Ashes series. So that was really tough.’

Shane went on to enjoy a PDA-filled romance with UK actress Elizabeth Hurley between 2010 and 2013, even popping the question prior to their split.

He previously described his relationship with Elizabeth as ‘the happiest years of his life life’.

‘I miss the love we had. My years with Elizabeth were the happiest of my life. I wanted to be better with her,’ he told The Mirror in 2018.
