Former AFL great Warren Tredrea has officially quit his job as Nine News Adelaide‘s sports presenter in the wake of the network’s Covid-19 vaccine mandate.

The 42-year-old, who considers himself ‘pro-choice’ on vaccines, hasn’t been on the air since Nine introduced its double-vaccination rule for all employees in December.

Following weeks of speculation about his future, Nine confirmed to The Advertiser on Saturday that Tredrea had left Nine News Adelaide for good.

‘Nine can confirm Warren Tredrea will not be presenting sport on our Adelaide bulletins into the future,’ a spokesperson said.

‘We are disappointed to see Warren leave but we wish him well,’ they added.

Nine will announce Tredrea’s replacement in the coming weeks.

Tredrea refused to comment on the reason for his departure, telling The Advertiser he ‘can’t speak’ on the matter.

The former Port Adelaide player has previously spoken about his ‘pro choice’ stance on vaccinations and in September revealed he hadn’t been immunised.

‘I’m fully vaccinated… but I’m not Covid vaccinated. Everyone is entitled to what they want to do because it’s your body,’ he told FIVEaa’s Rowey’s Sports Show.

Nine announced in December that its staff around the country had to be double-vaccinated as part of the company’s Covid-19 policy.

At the time, fellow Nine News and FIVEaa sports reporter Tom Rehn said he was hoping to see Tredrea back on the news desk.

‘It was a strange day that’s for sure,’ he told FIVEaa hosts David and Will after they said they hoped Tredrea would ‘come to his senses and get jabbed’.

‘Warren’s someone I consider a very close friend and a great person to work with. I hope he is going to be there,’ Rehn continued.

‘As far as I’m aware he’s on some leave at the moment, he was due to go off pretty soon anyway. I’m hoping we see him back, he’s an A-grade person, fantastic guy to work with and a great team player.’

Tredrea had served as Nine’s sports presenter since 2013 and also appears on FIVEaa during the AFL season.

He spent 14 years playing in the AFL and was Port Adelaide’s leading goal kicker in eight seasons and kicked a club record 549 goals.

He was awarded the John Cahill Medal for the best and fairest on four separate occasions while also representing Australia in the sport.

In 2014, he was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.
